Description

Portrait of Philip IV of France. Born 1268 in Fontainebleau, France. Died 29 November 1314 in Fontainebleau, France. Etching, and Aquatint by Jean Baptiste Morret (fl. c. 1788-1820), after Antoine Louis Francois Sergent, dit Sergent-Marceau (1751-1847), 1789. Reasonable condition. Paper a bit soiled and a bit browned, with some spotting/small staining. Some minor creasing. A few small, unobtrusive pinholes in the left margin. Verso: blank, with traces of former mounting. Note: etching and aquatint, printed in colour, with French text below the print. Note: dimensions reflect the plate mark. Dimensions: 245 x 165 mm. Philip IV of France was King of France, King, King of Navarre, Member of the House of Capet, "Philip the Fair", and "The Iron King".
