Portrait of George Hamilton, 1st Earl of Orkney. Born 9 February 1666 in Hamilton, Scotland. Died 29 January 1737 in London, England. Etching and Engraving by Jacob Houbraken (1698-1780), after Martin Maingaud (fl. 1692 - c.1725), 1742. Reasonable condition. Rather short margins. Paper slightly browned and a bit soiled. A small stain in the right margin (not affecting the image). Verso: blank, with traces of former mounting. Note: a rare British imprint by J.&R. Knapton, London, 1742. Dimensions: 362 x 227 mm. George Hamilton, 1st Earl of Orkney was Nobleman, Soldier, Field Marshal, Military leader, Earl, 1st Earl of Orkeny, Knight in the Order of the Thistle, Lord of the Bedchamber, Governor of Edinburgh Castle, Led the final assault at the Battle of Blenheim, Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, and The first British Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal.
