An exceptional Yoita (与板) three-piece bench chisel set, hand-forged in Yoita, Niigata Prefecture — one of Japan's most legendary regions for traditional blacksmithing. Each chisel in this set is forged from Blue Paper Steel #1 (Aogami #1 / 青紙一号鋼) , the highest grade of Aogami, renowned among craftsmen for world-class sharpness and outstanding edge retention. The handles are crafted from solid core-cut ebony (黒檀 / Kokutan) — a high-density hardwood prized for its lifelong durability and distinctive luster. The ferrules feature a traditional tsuchime (槌目) hand-hammered black finish, combining rugged strength with refined aesthetics. A discontinued, one-of-a-kind set from long-term storage. The original presentation box is included. Minor natural patina or light oxidation typical of decades-old vintage stock may be present on the blades or ferrules — this is characteristic of Aogami steel stored without oiling and does not affect performance. Setup Required Important — Not Ready to Use Out of the Box Like all traditional Japanese bench chisels, each chisel in this set requires initial setup before professional use: Hoop Seating (Katsura-uchi): The metal ferrule on each handle must be properly seated before first use to prevent the handle from splitting under mallet strikes. Initial Sharpening: The blade requires sharpening and back preparation (ura-dashi / 裏出し) before use. Aogami #1 is capable of an exceptional edge when properly sharpened on quality stones. Carbon Steel Care: Keep dry and apply a light coat of camellia oil or tool oil when storing to prevent rust. Experience Recommended: Intended for users familiar with the setup and use of traditional Japanese bench chisels. Safety & Use Notice 01 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Always wear eye protection. Flying chips can cause serious injury. Consider cut-resistant gloves and hearing protection depending on the work. 02 Correct Use / Misuse Chisels are cutting tools. Keep hands behind the cutting edge at all times. Do NOT use as a pry bar, wedge, or for striking metal. Secure your workpiece. Cut away from your body. 03 Hammer / Mallet Guidance Use an appropriate wooden mallet for these chisels. Striking with excessive force or using a metal hammer can damage the ebony handles and ferrules, and increases injury risk. The hand-hammered ferrules are functional as well as decorative — inspect before each use. 04 Carbon Steel Care Aogami #1 (Blue Paper Steel #1) is high-carbon steel and will rust if left wet or neglected. Wipe the blades dry after each use. Apply a thin coat of camellia oil or tool oil before storage. 05 Steel Information Our items do not come with official steel certification. Steel type information is based on the expert wholesaler's explanation at the time of purchase. 06 Box / Packaging The original presentation box is included as shown in the listing photos. The box may show wear consistent with long-term storage. 07 Warranty / Liability Sold AS IS / WITH ALL FAULTS to the extent permitted by law. User assumes all risks of setup, use, sharpening, and maintenance. 08 Questions? If you have any questions, please send us a message through eBay. We aim to respond within 24 hours. I purchased an Ichizo Higonokami Knife from Ichizo Hamono Honpo. My first impression of the seller was that the online store hosted on EBay was dedicated to communication with their customers, after the seller reached out expressing their openness to any questions. This first impression proved to be true in how the seller responded to my concerns about the product I received; after receiving a rusted knife, the seller promptly resolved the issue. Comms, customer service, and genuine care GRADE A
Absolutely outstanding seller. One of the best customer service experiences I’ve had in a long time. Communication was excellent, happily accommodated my request, and truly went above and beyond. It’s rare these days to find this level of care. Highly recommended — would gladly buy again.
Wow! Absolutely the fastest shipping from Japan! In my hands in a couple of days! Excellent seller and product! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
