Setup Required Important — Not Ready to Use Out of the Box Like all traditional Japanese bench chisels, each chisel in this set requires initial setup before professional use: Hoop Seating (Katsura-uchi): The metal ferrule on each handle must be properly seated before first use to prevent splitting under mallet work. Initial Sharpening: Each blade requires sharpening and back preparation (ura-dashi / ura-oshi) before use. The backs must be lapped flat on a whetstone. Carbon Steel Care: Aogami is high-carbon steel and will rust if left damp. Wipe dry after each use and apply a light coat of oil before storage.
