Portrait of Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg. Born 16 February 1620 in Berlin, Germany. Died 29 April 1688 in Potsdam, Germany. Copper engraving by Frederik Bouttats (1590-1661), c. 1660. Reasonable condition. Margins trimmed to the border. Portrait cut-out and placed in a seperately printed decorative border. Both the portrait and the border in a nice contemporary colouring. Paper slightly browned. Mounted on verso: a contemporary coloured portrait of Ferdinand Maria, Elector of Bavaria (1636-1679). Copper engraving by Frederik Bouttats (1590-1661), placed in a seperately printed decorative border. Traces of former mounting on the left. Dimensions: 159 x 114 mm. Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg was Aristocrat, Duke, Elector of Brandenburg, Prince-elector, Prince, Military commander, Duke of Prussia, Member of the House of Hohenzollern, Served in the Thirty Years' War, Knight in the Order of the Garter, Ruler of Brandenburg-Prussia, and "the Great Elector".
