These modern cabooses featured large bay windows for improved crew visibility and were painted in WP’s attractive silver with red ends and “Feather River Route” lettering. They were used on local freights, manifests, and helper districts across the rugged Feather River Canyon and throughout the WP system until cabooses were phased out in the 1980s–1990s. Many WP bay window cabooses, including the 400-series, remain favorites among collectors and modelers for their classic Western Pacific appearance.
