This is a vintage statue of Xianglong Luohan ( 降龍羅漢 ), also known as the Taming Dragon Arhat. According to legend, there was a dragon king in ancient India who flooded the kingdom of Nagah, hiding Buddhist scriptures in his dragon palace. Later, the venerable Xianglong Luohan subdued the dragon and recovered the scriptures. The Arhat’s clothes are glazed in crackled creme white, while his face, arms and legs are unglazed exposing the natural color of the mud. You can see the creases of mud clay under the glaze which is an effective way of giving dimension to the color. The ferocious 4-toed dragon at his feet is also unglazed. Amazing workmanship and details! Will make a wonderful addition to any collection of Asian art! China has a long history of ceramics production dating back over 3,000 years. The most famous Chinese Shiwan ware ceramics ( 石灣窯 ) is Chinese pottery from kilns located in the Shiwanzhen Subdistrict of the provincial city of Foshan, near Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The statue measures approximately 12”T x 9”W x 6”D. Comes with a sculpted round wooden display stand about 9-1/2” in diameter. In excellent vintage condition. Shipped promptly. Packaging is quite protective. Exactly as described. Item is a good value. A picture jasper carved stone bear of varying shades of tan, brown, pale tan with a craved stone pale translucent fish on its mouth. Item can be used as a focal point on a necklace or used for sewing onto a craft project. Item and seller recommended.
The rolling pin was new as described, shipped quickly and the packaging kept it safe and secure. It was priced a little high, but worth it!!
