'88-'89 New Years Eve Dead Show this one was - offering the Very 1st notes, tones & songs ... for the ' Super-Intergalactic ' 1989 Grateful Dead " Monster " Touring-Year - right in Oaktown ! at the Deadhead's one & only Oakland Coliseum !! Wow ... I mean 1989 Grateful Dead !!!!! Could never-ever say enough about it, and I still can't - as heck ... I'm just still getting started ! Well, how's this for starters ... Jerry Garcia !!!!!!! As This-Guy was on a straight-up Mission ! to bring the G.D. Live Heat ! in '89, and just kept doing it - Spring Tour, Summer Tour, Fall Tour, Winter Tour ... I mean you name it. I'm sure some of it had to be the whole 'near-death' thing in '86, obviously ... but Jerry was 47 here, and he was playing like he was 27 again - but ... no joke, even Better !!! I mean you only get better in Rock & Roll really, if you are truly one of the Greats ! And ... just how many Guitar Players really had the ideal ' chance ' to deliver for that long, for so many Rock & Roll, and Rock & Roll " Business " type reasons ... my point being something like this --- Jimmy Page got to play like what ? ... only 12-years with Zeppelin ? And, how many years did Iommi really-get, when you account for all of the on & off ' breaks ' ( & break-ups ) by the Black Sabbath(s) - including the Ozzy unit, the Dio unit, and also the ' other ' units. And Jerry ? - well, he got 30-Years ! with the G.D., and as far as I'm concerned ... this 1989-1990 Touring pocket, was indeed a Grateful Dead " Prime " Era - the tail-end of the " Brent-Era "... and arguably, in many ways you can easily argue - it " Was " the Ultimate-Prime ! of the Grateful Dead ' Live ' from a holistic standpoint - with ' all ' things considered. And, the simply fact is ... Jerry ! knew-it, and he got after it in 1989 Harder ! then in any other recent Dead Touring Year ... as you'd really have to go back all the way to 1985, and the " Twenty Years So Far ! " G.D.
