Grading Our vinyl Records Grading [Brand-New(Sealed) > Used (Sealed) > EX+ (NM) > EX > EX- > VG+ > VG > VG- > Poor] VINYL Brand-New (Sealed / New without shrink wrap): Unopened and new. In Japan, many new records are not shrink-wrapped at the time of release. These also fall into this category. Used (Sealed): Unopened but has been released for a long time. EX+ (NM): No scratches or scuffs on the audio grooves. (However, items with slight damage to non-audio grooves are also included in this category. [Minor deterioration on lead-in/lead-out grooves, outer edge, or label.]) EX: Slightly less visually pristine than EX+ (including non-sound grooves). Some scratches or scuffs that do not affect sound quality. (Including cases where there is only one scuff.) These scratches or scuffs are small, shallow, inconspicuous, or a combination of these. EX-: Overall sound quality is good. However, there are one or more deep scratches or scuffs that are likely to cause noise. (Additionally, this category includes records with many small, shallow scratches or scuffs that may produce more noticeable surface noise compared to EX+ or EX.) No skips. VG+: The standard condition for used records. Many scratches and scuffs are present, and noise (or surface noise) is slightly more noticeable than in EX-. No skips. VG: More deteriorated than VG+. There is a possibility of skips on some playback devices. Poor: Unplayable. COVER Brand-New (Sealed / New without shrink wrap): Unopened and new. In Japan, many new records are not shrink-wrapped at the time of release. These also fall into this category. Used (Sealed): Unopened but has been released for a long time. EX+ (NM): Very minimal signs of aging, almost unnoticeable. EX: Slight signs of aging or wear that are not very noticeable. In excellent condition for a used item. EX-: More noticeable signs of aging compared to EX, but overall in good condition. VG+: The standard condition for used covers. More noticeable deterioration than EX-, but still usable without issues. (Small seam splits or similar damages that do not hinder storage are also included in this category.) VG: Worse condition than VG+. Noticeable deterioration (such as seam splits, deformations, etc.). Usability may be affected. Poor: Significantly deteriorated. Functionality as a cover is compromised. *We usually do not list records or jackets in VG or lower condition (except for inserts). However, we may list highly valuable and rare items regardless of their condition. ** We do not list records with warping that affects playback. However, if a disc flattener (a device used to correct warping) can improve the condition, we may list such items after using the disc flattener to correct the warping and confirming their overall condition (including sound quality, appearance, etc.). [Slight warping that does not affect sound quality or playback will not be forcibly corrected and will be listed as is. This is because there is a rare risk that the correction could have the opposite effect.] Our grading standards are primarily based on visual inspection. Therefore, there is a very small possibility of occasional oversight. That being said, we conduct test listening whenever time allows, especially for records with visible scratches, scuffs, or signs of potential deterioration. However, it is impossible to listen to every record and every track. Additionally, even records with no visible signs of deterioration may still have sound quality issues. If you find any discrepancies in our grading, please do not hesitate to contact us.
