This item is a collection of 13 printed facsimile reproductions of horses portrayed in “The American Sporting Gallery” printed by the Harvard Press in 1949. Only 500 sets of these thirteen prints were printed and issued in a 12” x 16” portfolio with informative commentary on each of the horses by Carvel Collins. The portfolio is included with the prints. The set contains twelve thoroughbred prints and one trotting print. This particular set is marked of 112 of 500. The cover of the portfolio is very soiled and tattered on the edges (see pictures); however, the inside pages are in quite nice condition. I have included a couple of pictures of the prints unframed so you can easily see the edges of the prints. The engravings were chiefly created from paintings by Henri de Lattre and Edward Troye. Each print is nicely matted and framed in wooden frames painted black, behind frame-grade plexiglass. They are light and easy to hang, weighing approximately 3.5 pounds each. The prints measure approximately 12" x 16"; the outside of the frames measure approximately 22 3/4" x 18 3/4" x 1 1/4". These prints would make a valuable addition to any horse enthusiast's collection or a charming decor piece for those who appreciate equestrian art from the past.
