Obituary Addresses on the Occasion of the Death of the Hon. William R. King of Alabama, Vice President of the United States. Printed in Washington by Robert Armstrong, 1854. William Rufus DeVane King (1786–1853) served as the 13th Vice President of the United States under Franklin Pierce but tragically died only weeks after taking office, making him one of the shortest-serving vice presidents in U.S. history. This volume records the official proceedings, memorial addresses, and resolutions delivered in the Senate, House of Representatives, and the Supreme Court on December 8–9, 1853. The House resolution of December 19, 1853, authorized the printing of 30,000 copies.
