The black ravens symbolise a mysterious and magical world which is not easy to enter. This fairy tale highlights the importance of cooperation, perseverance and determination in overcoming challenges. It is a valuable teaching tool which imparts the nation’s values and morals to future generations. A symbolic tattoo – the tree of life – on the sister’s back depicts the key moments of her life: birds, winds, clouds, a mountain, children, a bonfire and a crown are all depicted using Lithuanian folk ornaments, reinforcing the mystical plot of the fairy tale. The composition is surrounded by the inscription “Dvylika brolių, juodvarniais lakstančių” (The Twelve Brothers, Twelve Black Ravens). Obverse The obverse of the coin bears a knitting that features the main motif of the fairy tale, the inscription “Lietuva” (Lithuania) and a symbolic silhouette of the Vytis.
