The second volume concerns protohistory, from the beginning of the Holocene to historical times. In what climate and at what latitudes have the innovations represented by farming and animal husbandry succeeded in sustaining themselves? How did agro-pastoral societies adapt to the progression of Holocene aridity after the exceptional wet period at its beginning? Is nomadic pastoralism a specialization of an agro-pastoral society in the context of increasing aridity and/or an adaptation of animal domestication to steppe and semi-desert areas? How have agro-pastoral societies adapted to multi-century periods of climate change such as those known from protohistoric and historical periods (the crises of 8200 BP, 4200 BP, 1200 BC and 800 BC; the Roman climate optimum; the crisis of the Later Roman Empire and barbarian invasions; the medieval climate optimum; the Little Ice Age)? And how did they survive episodes of adverse weather lasting several years that caused scarcity and famine? Is climate change a factor whose impact on human societies can be witnessed through time, forcing them to adapt and find sustainable solutions? This book is the second of two volumes exploring human societies facing climate change in pre and protohistory. Volume 2 concerns protohistory, from the beginning of the Holocene to historical times. ------------------------------ Why buy from BookCurl? ------------------------------ • 99.9% positive eBay feedback • All items brand new • Free tracked UK delivery • Independent UK bookseller with millions of titles • Secure packaging for safe delivery • Friendly support and recommendations BookCurl – Curl up with a good book. 1. This book arrived today, exactly when the seller said it would, and was very well packaged for its journey. It is in absolutely perfect condition and it exactly as it is described on Ebay. For a book that is something of a rarity in Britain, the price was very low and having free postage made the value even greater. It is a small Christmas present for someone with the family name of 'Lucero', so this makes the exceptional way in which this seller works all the more special. Thank you greatly

  2. Sadly the book went missing in the post and was not delivered. I contacted the seller who immediately replied, apologising for the lack of delivery and explaining that there were no further paperback copies available. Instead, the seller offered a hardback copy or a refund. As I wanted the 2012 (paperback) edition, with the updated introduction, I chose the refund. This was provided immediately with a covering message. A first class eBay seller, who I have no hesitation in recommending.
