The festival was attended by 26,000 people from 157 countries of the world. The slogan of the festival is “For anti-imperialist solidarity, peace and friendship”. Before the festival, posters, postage stamps with festival symbols, a commemorative coin were issued. The poster and symbols of the XII World Festival of Youth and Students were approved in the Central Committee of the CPSU in Moscow personally by Mikhail Gorbachev. The political task of the festival was to show the positive aspects of the life of Soviet society, as well as the establishment of a new international economic order, discussion of the problem of economic assistance to backward and developing countries, the fight against poverty and unemployment, and environmental issues were raised.
