Description

This document embodies an extremely unique curio of Americana. Namely, a postcard inscribed and sent by Seth Flint, who, at age 15, enlisted in Union Army under pseudonym "Charles M. Seaver" (claiming to be 18), who was the brother of the recipient of the postcard dated July 1, 1913 and postmarked Gettysburg 5:30 AM, July 4, 1913. At that time Seth Flint was in attendance at The 1913 Gettysburg Great Reunion of Civil War Veterans, who gathered to acknowledge The Union, and to commemorate and heal from participation in The Battle of Gettysburg fifty years earlier during July 1-3, 1863, which is considered the largest and most singularly significant battle of The American Civil War and which battle inspired President Abraham Lincoln's speech, The Gettysburg Address . In the three decades following, Mr. Flint was apparently the last living witness to General Lee's surrender and handing over of his sword to General Grant in the McClean House in the Village of Appomattox Court House. Mr. Flint, as Escort Bugler for General Grant, blew Taps for The North, i.e. for The Union, at the occasion on April 9, 1865; his tune, in turn, answered thereafter by General Lee's bugler. The postcard is addressed as follows: Mrs Harry Hazlett Baxter Iowa The inscription reads as follows: July 1st 1913 Dear Sister - We are here 50,000 Strong Having a great time Hope this finds you all well. S M Flint The psycho-energetic historical forces infused with the document should not be underestimated, being an artifact directly imbued by the participant forever after, resonating directly with the entirety of The American Civil War and General Lee's Ceremonial agreement to its Cessation. Bound together with the postcard's postmark no less at Gettysburg no less on a July 4, the item constitutes a True American Relic differing perhaps only in degree and not differing in kind with The True Holy Lance, The Spear of Longinus, reputed to have pierced the side of the body of Christ Jesus; in this case, Seth Flint considered as a scribe personally present at both The Surrender and The Gettysburg Great Reunion, recording and stamping the events as a Power Transfer of victory, triumph, and intended peace bought at great cost for American posterity. Seth Flint published a memoire of the Surrender Event that transpired on April 9, 1865 in the April 6, 1940 edition of The Saturday Evening Post . He is interred in Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, New York, USA. (Dimensions are 3" 3/8" x 5" 5/8".)
