Description
This is a student's model made of plastic and metal which has been completely disassembled and re-imagined as if it were found in some eccentric's Victorian library. The base has a faux finish appearance of burled wood with ornate brass fittings. The planets have been distressed and antiqued to look like wood and ceramic. The labels have been painstakingly put together (each require 9 different steps by hand) and because of the absurd amount of time and effort required, these will be limited, keeping the prototype in our own hundred-year-old library, before retiring this model we call "The Sherlock." This model normally requires 2-3 weeks before delivery - ask if you need it sooner. This is approximately 9.5" tall and extends about 18" out from the center. It's big and showy. Your kids will fight over this when you die. It runs on 4 AA batteries (included.) The model is not intended as a nightlight - it automatically shuts off after about 15 minutes. The four smaller planets rotate at a faster speed than the four larger planets which creates an impressive display. Item was just as it was described! Packaged well, beautiful detail. Husband loved it and wasted no time in putting it together. The first package was misplaced and delayed by the post office, but seller was quick to send another Orrery in time for Christmas. Communication was awesome!
Although it took a while, I'm quite pleased with the orrery. It's exactly as described and was packed well for shipping. It makes a beautiful table centerpiece that stimulates conversation!
