Engraved By S. Paul ( English, Active 1770s ) and Published By William Humphrey of St. Martin's Lane, London. It Depicts Georgiana Spencer ( English, 1737-1814 ), Later Duchess of Devonshire, Portrayed with Her Young Daughter in A Tender Maternal Pose. Drapery, Architectural Elements, and the Gentle Interaction Between Mother and Child Reflect the Era's Ideals of Refinement, Lineage, and Virtue, While the Soft Chiaroscuro Achieved through the Mezzotint.
