Description

The item is an authentic Civil War diary from 1864 of Union soldier Private Nelson S. Hendryx of the 42nd Regiment out of Ohio. This is a fascinating look into one mans life during his involvement in the Civil War. His diary provides at times, a day by day account of his and others part during this historical time in American history. Including his experiences in fights and skirmishes on their trek by foot across the majority of Mississippi and Louisiana enroute to the Red River Campaign, the last significant battle at the end of this unforgettable time in our history. Within his diary are the mentioning of some names of his fellow soldiers, including Private Alvin J. Stanley, 1st Sargent George B. Masters and the account of a fellow soldier Captain Seth M. Barber who unfortunately had his leg amputated as a result of their involvement in the Battle of Vicksburg. He also keeps track of alot of correspondence with his wife, kids and relatives. He also might have been responsible for keeping track of money paid to soldiers or something to that effect, as he would be writing down serial#'s of United States bills of currency. His spelling of words is at times a challenge to decipher, but once you figure it out he's consistent with writing it becomes easier to read it. I found it to be unbelievably fascinating and educational. The diary is in fragile condition, but is able to be looked at and gone through carfully. Diary begins written in pencil for the first so many pages and then to ink for some then back to pencil. The cover is on the verge of coming loose from the binding, but all pages are connected very well together still. If there are any questions I can attempt to answer them the best I can. Would be open to considering offers above $2,000. SHIPPING,HANDLING & PAYMENT The item will be ship via Usps priority mail w/ tracking and adult signature required, only after full payment has been made and confirmed by ebay as well as my account.
