Dissertatio Historica de America Norvegis ante Tempora Columbi Adita, published in 1801, is a Latin-language academic dissertation by Swedish scholar Haquinus Stenström. Written during his time at Uppsala University, the work examines the historical claims that Norse explorers—particularly Greenlanders and Icelanders—reached the shores of North America centuries before Columbus’s 1492 voyage. Drawing upon Icelandic sagas and earlier Scandinavian sources, Stenström presents a scholarly argument supporting the pre-Columbian discovery of America by the Norwegians. The dissertation reflects the Enlightenment-era interest in critical historiography and the growing European fascination with early exploration narratives. Rare and printed in limited quantity for academic purposes, this work contributes to the longstanding scholarly tradition affirming Norse contact with the New World. Carl Trolle-Bonde (1843–1912) was a Swedish count, landowner, politician, and historian known for his contributions to agriculture, genealogy, and cultural preservation. Educated at Uppsala University and trained as a cavalry officer, he later managed several prominent family estates, including Trolleholm, Kjesäter, and Hesselby, where he implemented progressive reforms in farming and forestry. A member of the Swedish Parliament, he served in both the First and Second Chambers, representing the conservative Lantmanna Party. Trolle-Bonde was also an avid historian and bibliophile, publishing detailed works on the Bonde family estates and initiating the genealogical series Anteckningar om Bondesläkten. His writings, including Ex Bibliotheca Trolleholmia, reflect a deep commitment to preserving Swedish noble heritage and the cultural history of his country.
